ARE YOU FEELING STUCK?

Maybe you are struggling with a life transition and are feeling a bit lost and not quite yourself. Maybe you want to find more fulfillment from your relationships.  Maybe you have a good life and think you should be content, but you just aren't.

Therapy can help!

For over 20 years, I have been helping people improve their relationships, heal their wounds, grieve losses, cope with transitions, reach their goals, and celebrate life. I am committed to providing a non-judgmental, supportive, safe space to help you uncover things that are getting in the way of your happiness and well-being.

My Approach:

I seek to understand how people define themselves, how the world sees them, and how their identities change over time. I enjoy leading people through the exploration of deeper layers of their experience and identities as a pathway to transformation.  I work with clients to improve the way they relate to others, but first and foremost, how they relate to themselves. I support the therapeutic work of people of all ages, backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, and ethnicities.

I grew up in the Midwest and am Korean and Italian.  My clients find me to be warm and down to earth.  I believe counseling is a collaborative process, and that it starts in the first session as we work together to understand your concerns. I start with being authentic myself and ask my clients to do the same. It is essential to find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable being vulnerable as you will be sharing important details and reflections about your life experience.

My professional experience includes:

  • Clinical Consultant for The Department of Defense schools, child development centers, and teen centers in the US, Asia, and Europe

  • Over seven years of experience providing trauma focused therapy to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault

  • Intensive Outpatient Program therapist at Kaiser Permanente and at The Bay Area Children's Association

My educational experience includes:

  • Master's in Social Work from the University of Chicago

  • Post-master's Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of New Mexico

  • Bachelor's in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University with honors

Services

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

Our identities are made up of that which is ours to own and that which others have impressed upon us. Therapy can help assist in sorting out what's yours, and what's yours to let go of—allowing access to deeper authenticity, contentment, and meaning in life. By applying a wide-variety of complementary therapy approaches and techniques, I help people heal and transform their lives. Through a careful exploration of past experiences, long-standing behavioral patterns, we discover your strengths, get you back on your side, and help you lead a life worth celebrating.  I provide short and long term counseling depending on my clients' needs. I work with children, teens, young adults, and adults.

COUPLES COUNSELING

Navigating intimate relationships can be challenging.  I am here to help you find better ways of connecting and understanding one another.  In couples therapy, you will learn: how to share your feelings and be vulnerable with your partner, how to set boundaries and create an inter-dependent relationship rather than a co-dependent one, and how best you can express your care and love for one another.  I will teach you skills that you can take home and practice in order to create lasting positive change.

FAMILY COUNSELING

The family therapy I provide helps family members understand one another better, relate to each other more effectively, balance out family duties, navigate big and small conflicts, and live with more peace and joy.  Families come in all shapes and sizes.  I am comfortable working with single parent families, with blended families, and with children of divorce whose parents are parallel parenting or co-parenting.

Common Questions

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

I accept Lyra EAP.  For clients with other insurance plans, I provide superbills to submit for possible out of network reimbursement.

Most PPO plans will reimburse members for mental health services. Please call your customer service agent if you would like to use your out-of-network mental health benefits. Here are some questions to ask:

  1. Are out-of-network providers accepted for mental health services?

  2. What is my co-insurance rate (in percentages) for out-of-network provider?

  3. What is the allowable fee (aka UCR) for regular weekly sessions?

  4. How much do I pay towards my deductible before my benefits will apply?

  5. Do I need prior authorizations for office based services?

  6. Are there limits to how many sessions will be covered?

WHY DO PEOPLE SEE A THERAPIST AND HOW DO I KNOW IF IT IS RIGHT FOR ME?

People have many different motivations for coming to therapy. Some may be going through a major life transition or are not handling stressful circumstances well.  Some people need assistance managing a range of other issues such as low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, spiritual conflicts and creative blocks.  Therapy can help provide some much needed encouragement and help with skills to get them through these periods.  Others may be at a point where they are ready to learn more about themselves or want to be more effective with their goals in life.

DO I REALLY NEED THERAPY?  I CAN USUALLY HANDLE MY PROBLEMS.

Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be admired. You are taking responsibility by accepting where you're at in life and making a commitment to change the situation by seeking therapy.
